Punjabi & South Asian Nonprofit — Solano County

Serving our community withseva

House of Seva empowers Punjabi and South Asian families across Solano County through education, health, culture, and opportunity — rooted in the Sikh value of selfless service.

seva

ਸੇਵਾ · noun · / ˈseɪ·vɑː /

“Selfless service, given freely and without expectation of reward — the heart of Sikh practice, and the foundation of everything we do.”

Our Purpose

Why House of Seva exists

Across Solano County, thousands of Punjabi and South Asian families build their lives without a single nonprofit dedicated to their needs. Students navigate college alone, elders struggle to access services in their language, and new arrivals search for stability without a guide.

House of Seva exists to change that — a steady, trusted home our community can turn to. We meet people where they are, in language and in spirit, building programs that open doors rather than close them.

Our Story

Built from the community

House of Seva began with a personal truth: the support our founder needed growing up never existed. A first-generation college graduate raised in Vallejo and shaped by the gurdwara community, they navigated the path to higher education — and later to careers in technology and medicine — largely alone.

That experience became a calling. Why should the next student, the next family, the next elder face those same closed doors? House of Seva is the infrastructure our founder wished had been there, now built deliberately for the people who come next.

We are not a charity that arrives from the outside. We are of this community — we speak its languages, share its traditions, and understand its quiet struggles. Every program is an act of seva, and a promise that no one here has to do it alone again.

Meet the Founder

Jaiveer Bassi

Founder & Executive Director

Jaiveer is a first-generation college graduate, born and raised in Vallejo, with a background in technology. He grew up in the local Punjabi community and the gurdwara sangat, where he spent years volunteering and giving back to the people around him.

Along the way he saw how often families went without the support they needed, and how few places there were to turn to. He started House of Seva to help change that, building a home rooted in seva for the community he grew up in, beginning with Seva Scholars for first-generation Punjabi and South Asian youth.
